The Tennis Club possesses some of the finest playing facilities in the country which provide the opportunity to play on different surfaces both indoor and outdoor.

  • 4 outdoor floodlit acrylic/cement courts
  • 2 indoor courts acrylic/cement courts
  • 3 outdoor shale courts (Apr-Sep)
  • 2 indoor Airdome shale courts (Oct-Mar)

    Acrylic Surface
The 4 acrylic courts are also floodlit and are arranged on a split level with two courts situated in front of a spacious viewing patio adjacent to the bar. This is a popular surface especially with the juniors who have the opportunity to practice on a surface widely used for tournament play.

    Shale Surface
The 3 shale courts, almost unique in the County are maintained to a high standard by the full-time Groundsman and have similar playing qualities to both European and American clay courts. This surface is often favoured by the more senior members who find the surface more “forgiving” physically and the rallies more of a challenge! Clay courts are now being widely promoted by the LTA as a surface upon which it is necessary for juniors to “learn” the game in order to be able to compete with the vast number of European players who are “experts” on this surface. During the winter months 2 of the shale courts are covered by an Airdome providing this playing surface all year round.
  • Covered Courts
The Club has the luxury of 2 individual, covered courts with a smooth tarmac surface. The courts are designed as a permanent structure and provide the benefit of indoor playing facilities all the year round. There is an extensive viewing area for spectators of indoor matches and tournaments and members have the opportunity to book these courts on a “block booking” basis for the winter season so ensuring a regular game. In addition, 2 shale courts are covered by a temporary Air hall structure for the winter season giving members the almost unique luxury of a choice of surfaces.
