The Connaught Club is situated in a beautiful position deep in the heart of Epping Forest on the borders of Essex and the borough of Waltham Forest. Historical research has shown that the original courts belonged to The Royal Forest Hotel and The Connaught was established as an independent club in 1885.

The club has gone through a number of changes over its 123 year history. It was originally formed as The Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. In 1910 the Bowls Section was introduced with the laying of a bowls green in place of a concrete tennis court. In 1939 the croquet section was disbanded and in 1970 the club responded to the boom in the game of squash by starting the Squash Section.

From its inception, the club has existed purely as a members club and during its history has maintained a high standard of performance in all three disciplines, producing a stream of high quality club, county and international players. This continues today with excellent coaching in all three sports.

Today, the facilities available at the Connaught Club include:

CONNAUGHT CLUB TENNIS FACILITIES

The club provides the opportunity to play on different surfaces both indoor and outdoor. Our courts include:

4 outdoor floodlit hard courts;

2 indoor courts hard courts;

3 outdoor shale courts (Apr-Sep); and

2 indoor Airdome shale courts (Oct-Mar)

The Tennis Club possesses some of the finest playing facilities in the country which provide the opportunity to play on different surfaces both indoor and outdoor.

CONNAUGHT CLUB SQUASH FACILITIES

The Squash Club was introduced into the club in 1970. There are four courts including two glass backs, one of which is an exhibition court with seating for approximately 100 people.

During the summer the squash club currently runs 3-4 mens and 2 ladies teams. The winter season sees team activity increase. Connaught Squash also run regular annual competitions for its members.

Racketball has become very popular over the last couple of years and is also played on our courts.

CONNAUGHT CLUB BOWLS FACILITIES

The Connaught Club Bowls section boasts 6 rink greens that are maintained to very high standard, and are overlooked by a covered grand stand.

There are purpose built Men's and Ladies pavilions and a tea hut with grandstand seating for the exclusive use of the bowlers. The club currently has about 110 members with almost equal numbers of men and women.

We take pride in the fact that many of our members have attained high County and National success but, just as importantly, we take pride in our reputation for good hospitality and genuine friendliness and we offer a warm welcome to players of all standards.

CONNAUGHT CLUB FITNESS FACILITIES

The Fitness Figures studio has a full range of cardio-vascular equipment & resistance weight machines. Free weights are also available, as is a treatment room where you can receive a full range of beauty treatments and sports massages.

BAR

We also have a thriving bar at the club that serves tea, coffee, sandwiches and hot food. The bar and pavillion are available for private hire for social functions.
